Tennis Elbow and Golfer's Elbow: What You Need to Know
Elbow, wrist, and hand pain are a major source of pain and disability. Here's what causes it, how to treat it, and how to prevent it from coming back.
Common Causes of Elbow Pain
Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) develops when the muscles and tendons of the forearm become overloaded or injured, causing pain on the outside of the elbow. Golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis) is the same story on the inside of the elbow. Despite the names, both conditions come from any repetitive stress activity — painting, typing, gardening — not just sports.
What Are the Symptoms?
Pain that worsens with activity, forearm weakness, difficulty extending the arm, tenderness right over the affected tendon, and sometimes a burning sensation.
Prevention
Proper technique, correctly-sized equipment, a real warm-up, frequent rest breaks, forearm strengthening, and elbow support when needed.
Getting Treated
Our approach includes chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue manipulation with the Graston Technique, customized corrective exercise, and education on preventing re-injury. Chiropractic treatment is safe and effective, and it doesn't involve drugs or surgery.
